Mom’s guide to surviving winter in boston

Photo of Boston Common covered in snow on late afternoon in Winter. The trees have fairy lights in them.

Halloween is over and we all know what is coming. With shorter days, colder mornings, and warmer wardrobes, we are all dreading the thought of the long winter ahead. I can’t be the only one in Boston who wonders why I live here by the time we reach February. We want to give all the Boston parents a toolkit to surviving these next few months with young children.

Make sure you and your children have the right equipment!

We have a few recommendations for pieces of equipment for you and your baby or toddler that will help.

  1. A sturdy stroller like the UppaBaby Vista that pushes effortlessly through snow and slush.

  2. A car seat cocoon. (don’t settle for something like a BundleMe for a car seat-it’s not safe!)

  3. Good winter boots for the whole family. (Even the dog will appreciate a good pair of paw booties).

  4. A good winter coat. Trust me, this one is worth investing in, especially in New England!

Get out of the house…..every day!

This one is easier said than done, especially with young kids. It will help you get through the long, cold days. Enjoy the indoor activities that Boston has to offer like the Museum of Fine Arts.

Boston has beautiful libraries to enjoy that will be the perfect warm retreat for you and your family this winter.

Be kind to yourself!

Lastly, recognize that parenting is hard work. Parenting in the middle of Winter in Boston is even harder! Give yourself a break and make time to take care of yourself. Sommet Nannies is always hiring full-time nannies for families and it allows busy parents to take time out of their day to get a manicure, go to the gym, or take a solo walk. Take care of yourself this winter!

Welcome to Sommet Nannies, a nanny agency with presence in Boston, Chicago, Washington DC, New York and nationwide. We help busy families find dedicated and caring college-educated nannies.
