Mix that with the geographical location on the East Coast, with quick access to Maryland, Virginia, the whole of the East Coast, as well as a short hop over to Europe, and you have a true melting pot of ideas and intellect.
What makes Washington DC a great place to grow up?
Washington, DC is home to some of the best schools in the country. It boasts an extraordinarily rich and diverse culture thanks to its prominent east coast location and proximity to Europe. The spring blossom comes early, and the summer days are long.
One quarter of Washington DC’s land area is devoted to parks and open spaces and one of the highest per capita ratios of parks in the whole of the USA. There are over 7500 acres of parks in Washington DC, and playgrounds on every corner. It is a great place to raise kids, and a truly wonderful place to experience life as a kid.
And of course, Washington DC is also home to some of the world’s best museums. To name just a few of the excursions your nanny might take your little ones to visit, there is The Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, where sculptures capture the imagination of young minds. Outdoors, there are many stroller-friendly trails in the midst of Theodore Roosevelt Island (designed by the Olmsted brothers) or the popular and kid-friendly Georgetown Waterfront Park. The International Spy Museum captures the imagination like no other museum, and for the more biologically-minded, there’s the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and the United States Botanic Garden, which are all worthy of weekday adventures or weekend excursions.
