About the Family
A warm, loving family in Chevy Chase, Maryland is seeking a professional Nanny/Family Assistant to provide attentive, engaging, and developmentally informed care for their 5-year-old daughter. She is a lovely, affectionate, cheerful little girl who loves connecting with and engaging with other people. She is autistic and nonverbal.
She thrives with close one-to-one attention, meaningful play, movement, outdoor activities, and adults who take the time to understand her individual ways of communicating through gestures, looks, facial expressions, points, and sounds. The family is looking for someone who will genuinely engage with their daughter rather than simply supervise her and who is passionate about meeting her where she is developmentally.
She responds particularly well to a relationship-based, child-led approach. The family follows DIR/Floortime principles and emphasizes connection over correction, a low-demand philosophy, plenty of transition time, and an environment that supports her regulation. She may become dysregulated around transitions or non-preferred activities, so the ideal candidate will be patient, highly self-regulated, calm, compassionate, and comfortable slowing down to support her needs.
She attends floortime therapies Monday through Friday from approximately 9:00am–12:00pm. Her nanny will work collaboratively with Mom, who is a stay-at-home mom, Dad, and her therapy team to help carry therapeutic and relationship-based approaches naturally into everyday life. Dad occasionally travels back and forth between the UK and Dubai. The nanny will initially onboard alongside Mom and gradually transition into independent care.
About the Role
This is a child-focused Nanny/Family Assistant position with the primary responsibility being attentive, one-to-one care of the family's daughter. The ideal candidate will bring genuine passion and joy to their work with children and will be eager to build a strong, trusting relationship with her while learning her unique communication cues, preferences, and needs.
The nanny will engage her through child-led play, movement, sensory activities, outdoor activities, and developmentally appropriate interaction. A major focus of the role will be following her lead, meeting her where she is, and creating opportunities for connection and engagement rather than imposing expectations or demands. The family is looking for someone with a growth mindset who is open to learning and implementing the family's childcare philosophies and DIR/Floortime approach.
The nanny will provide constant, developmentally appropriate supervision and support everyday routines including dressing, meals, toileting, and transitions. When she becomes dysregulated, the nanny should be able to remain calm and patient, recognize her cues, and provide compassionate support to help her return to a regulated state.
The nanny will also prepare meals and snacks for the child while following her dairy-free and gluten-free diet. The nanny may accompany her to activities and, when appropriate, therapy appointments, and will communicate and collaborate closely with her parents and therapy team.
Family assistant responsibilities will be secondary to childcare and will include kitchen tidying, laundry for the family, light home tidying and organization, taking out the garbage, and light meal preparation for the family. The family is looking for someone who is proactive and willing to help keep the household running smoothly while always understanding that the child's care is the primary focus of the role.
The nanny will need their own reliable vehicle for commuting, on street parking is available. There are no pets in the household, and the position does not include travel.
Above all, the family is looking for someone who is patient, energetic, engaging, emotionally regulated, and genuinely passionate about working with children. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with a child-led, low-demand approach, have a growth mindset, and be open to learning from the family and therapy team. They hope to find someone who will take the time to truly understand their daughter, celebrate her individuality, and become a trusted and joyful presence in her life.
