Description:
A warm, down-to-earth family in the West Village is seeking a proactive and highly organized Family Assistant/Nanny to support their household and provide thoughtful guidance to their 11-year-old child. While childcare is part of the role, the child is independent and in school Monday–Friday from 8:15 AM to 3:00 PM. The family is looking for someone who can offer structure, reliability, and mentorship in the afternoons while taking ownership of errands, organization, and home management throughout the day. Parents typically work outside the home and maintain nontraditional schedules. The family has one hypoallergenic cat, and there are no allergies or dietary restrictions in the home. Travel is not required, though they may request support for one trip per year.
Household Dynamic:
The child is bright, curious, and independent, and benefits from the presence of a grounded, communicative adult who can provide gentle guidance and help keep routines smooth. Because the child is older, the role requires far more initiative around household projects, daily systems, and creating ease for the family, rather than hands-on supervision. The home would thrive with someone who naturally notices needs, finds projects to take on, and keeps things running in the background without being asked.
Ideal Candidate:
The family is seeking someone who is:
A self-starter who anticipates needs and takes initiative
Observant, organized, and comfortable managing household tasks
Young at heart and able to connect with an older child through shared interests and conversation
Reliable, flexible, communicative, and kind
Comfortable cooking and meal-prepping, or eager to grow in that area
Someone who goes the extra mile and takes pride in being useful and proactive
Experience with neurodivergent children is a plus, but not required
Primary Responsibilities:
Providing warm, age-appropriate guidance and support for an 11-year-old child
Preparing after-school snacks and dinners the child enjoys
Planning and stocking favorite foods and beverages
Grocery shopping, errands, and picking up mail/packages from the lobby
Keeping household supplies stocked and organized
Tidying and organizing shared spaces and maintaining seasonal clothing inventory
Identifying and tackling projects around the home without direction
Scheduling and coordinating with contractors or vendors for minor apartment maintenance
Supporting routines, homework, and afternoon structure
Communicating clearly with parents and collaborating on expectations
Occasional travel with the family as needed (approximately once per year)
Qualifications:
Experience working with school-aged children
Strong household management or family assistant background
Excellent communication, discretion, and follow-through
Comfortable handling errands, organization, and vendor coordination
Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
Experience supporting neurodivergent children is welcomed but not mandatory
If you’re an organized, proactive professional who enjoys being a trusted right hand to a family and making a meaningful impact behind the scenes and with an older child, they would love to meet you!
